Product Ideas for companies

I’ve some product ideas for few daily used consumer apps. Hope the right people listen to this.

Uber : Recently i went to another city for a few days. I was fully dependent on uber/ola those days. Per day i was making 6 to 8 the rides. Most of them were round trips. Most of these trips were for an hour or so. If i’ve gone to a place, a mall or a business meeting, it’s much likely i’m gonna return back in an hour or so. Every time i had to click destination, and wait for 10–15 mins for a new driver. If you do this for 3 to 4 destinations in a day( 6 to 8 trips) it was very annoying, time-taking and repetitive.

Idea: Return Trip Planner: What Uber could do here is , it could schedule for a round trip and take the return time in a 15–30 mins round time, meaning if it could ask for my return will be in an hour or two, and accordingly in it’s rider-driver matching algorithm the app should keep an alert(or priority in the algorithm) of the return ride. And on the app screen or just a pop up, book return trip now. There may be better ways to do this, but this feature must be added, if Uber truly wants to take away car ownership.

Tinder: Reading description & swiping right , sometimes is irritating. Sometimes people don’t know what they want. Giving them what a they want can be a great thing.

Auto-Match: It let’s user choose a particular day, let’s say friday evening. And what kind of match they want “Long term”, “Casual” , “DTF” etc. Now the app will auto-match 3 to 5 candidates based on common interest and few other factors. If the user doesn’t want, she/he can just unmatch and that’ll be used as a feedback loop to improve the algorithm. Lot of changes can be tried, but the main feature should be this: Auto-match people based on what they want for the night and interests.

YouTube have to figure out a way to adjust 4 to 6 videos in one screen size(mobile version) and give more options to customize the screens(what way you want to see it.) If YouTube truly aspires to be everybody’s personal TV. And all content has to be user-specific. The goal shouldn’t be just user-engagement, it should also be quality content(what that user wants to see).

If you observe, in all the cases above “convenience” is played. When it comes to people using apps, there is no limit to convenient . “There’s no such thing as too convenient”. Consumer apps these days have stopped innovating much and not much trying new things these days. The apps have to be simple design but more dynamic. Not everything should be manual choosing from the app. These ideas apply to any other dating apps or ride -hailing apps too.
